Frequently Asked Questions

How does your continuous enrollment work? You pick out your day and time based on your child's swim level. Classes meet once per week, for 30 minutes, at your chosen time. You keep your class time for as long as you would like to be in lessons. We will let you know if your child moves up to the next level, in which case we will assist you with picking out a different time.

Do you offer makeup lessons for missed classes? Yes. We allow one scheduled makeup lesson per month. No credits or refunds are given for missed classes.

What is your weather policy? MSA follows the Madison and Sun Prairie school districts for inclement weather closings. If the school districts close for a full day, MSA's respective location will close as well. If either school districts have a delayed start, morning lessons at each respective location will be cancelled and a decision regarding afternoon/evening lessons will be made by 2:00pm. If either districts close early, a decision regarding afternoon/evening lessons will also be made by 2:00pm. In the event of inclement weather on a weekend, closures will be at MSA's discretion. Families will be notified via email, and closures will be posted to our website as well as our Facebook. Madison Swim Academy does not offer credits for missed classes due to weather. A makeup may be scheduled at the front desk or a free family swim pass can be given in lieu of a makeup. Please always use your own discretion as to whether you feel comfortable driving in any bad weather conditions. 

What happens if I want to take a break from lessons? Please let us know by the 19th of the month if you are withdrawing your child for the following month. Auto payments are taken out on the 2nd of every month for the current month. For example, November tuition payments are run on November 2nd. If you are not planning on swimming in November, let us know by October 19th. If you are withdrawing with the intention of returning, please be sure to call the front desk prior to your return to schedule your class. We are not able to save your spot for future enrollment.

What is the pool temperature? We keep the pool at 88-89 degrees.

My child is not potty trained. What should they wear? We require all children that are not potty trained to wear reusable swim diapers. We recommend putting them in a disposable swim diaper underneath the reusable for extra protection. Due to state regulations, bathroom accidents typically require us to close for the entire day and are an inconvenience to both parents and Madison Swim Academy.

Do I have to pay the $40 registration fee every year? No. Each family pays the $40 registration fee just once - when they first sign up (per family, not per swimmer). If it has been over a year since you have swam with us, there is a $25 re-registration fee upon returning.

How can I help my nervous beginner swimmer? Simply exposing them to water as much as possible is a great way to help your child learn! The more time they spend in water the higher their level of comfort. Be patient and know that not all children learn at the same rate. Separation anxiety plays a large part as far as nervousness with younger swimmers. That will slowly start to diminish as your child and their instructor develop a trusting bond.

Will my child have the same teacher every week? We do our best to maintain consistency with instructors. However, we cannot anticipate days where your instructor may be ill, have a scheduled vacation, etc. If that is the case, your child will have a substitute teacher for that day. We will try our best to let you know if you will have a sub, however please understand that it is time consuming to contact every swimmer and we may not always be able to do that. We reserve the right to make a teacher change at any time.
